Jaipur Foot Camp

Veer Agrawal, a 9th grade student from American School of Bombay was all smiles on the successful completion of the four day ‘Jaipur Foot’ camp for which he had raised funds to the tune of Rs.14 lakhs. The funds raised enabled the ‘Jaipur Foot’ camp held at Risod in Washim district of Maharashtra from 23rd to 26th November. About 350 physically challenged people from nearby districts visited the camp, out of which about 300 were found fit for the treatment with prosthetic leg and were able to walk again. Over a dozen were also provided with wheel-chairs.

Radio City organized a pride walk in lieu of historical verdict announced last week by the Supreme Court of India on Section 377, decriminalizing sex between consenting adults of the same gender. Radio City’s ‘City Ki Pride – #FreeHugs’ took place on Monday, 10th September, wherein RJ Archana set out on a pride walk in Bandra East area of Mumbai, with members of the LGBTQA community. The members joining in for the walk included famous fashion designer Rohit Verma, Social worker for transgender rights, Vicky Shinde, Mr. Gay India (Runner-Up) 2017, Darshan Mandhana and others from LGBTQA groups like ‘Rainbow Tigers’ and ‘Humsafar’. The idea behind the activation was to celebrate the verdict by spreading the message of #LoveisLove and members of the community giving out free hugs to all. Supporters of Say Not to Plastic walk strike a pose at Inorbit Mall Malad

Inorbit mall, Malad in association with Green Yatra – an NGO devoted for a greener tomorrow organized a ‘Say No to Plastic’ walk. Supporting this noble initiative, people of different age groups joined the stride that was led by the famous toon characters Shin Chan and Garfield. Along with the toon friends customers, people working around in offices, NGO volunteers, societies around the mall walked and supported the initiative. More than 500 participants and volunteers showed great enthusiasm in propagating the message ‘Say No to Plastic’. The volunteers distributed more than 5000 eco-friendly bags among the crowd encouraging people to avoid the use of plastic bags. Read more

Women acid attack survivors walk the ramp for Women’s Day celebration

Women acid attack survivors stole the show at Viviana Mall’s third edition of ‘ExtraordiNAARI’ event. The mall invited women acid attack survivors to create awareness and campaign of stopping acid sale and acid attacks. Laxmi Agarwal, the Indian campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks and a TV host, who is also a survivor of acid attack was the guest of honor for the event at the mall.

Acid attack survivors from NGO Acid Survivors & Women Welfare Foundation (ASWWF) not only walked the ramp with confidence and style but their fighting spirit struck emotional chords of everyone at the event. Stories of acid attack by alcoholic husband, one sided lovers and in-laws, touched hearts of one and all. But, the interesting fact was that they have fought back against all odds and are doing courses, finding jobs and aspires to make their career shine. The show was organized to empower acid attack survivors who are often ignored by the society.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Rima Pradhan, Sr. Vice President, Marketing at Viviana Mall says, “Every year we, at ExtraordiNAARI try and create awareness towards a specific aspect that touches lives of women to create pathways that can lead to success. This year we were spell bounded with the kind of courage and fighting spirit that these acid attack survivors from different parts of our nation have shown. We in our way were happy to host them at Viviana Mall and give them some moments to cherish. We are also trying to create some career opportunities for these acid attack survivors to keep their hopes alive. With more than 350 registered acid attack survivors in India, it’s high time we take steps to support them and take measures to stop such attacks.”
