Love Sonia all set to go to United Nations

After winning the heart of audiences in London, Melbourne & India, Love Sonia is all set for a special screening at the United Nations in New York on Oct 11, the International Day of the Girl Child. This is the first official screening on US soil and Love Sonia is the film Indian film to be officially invited by the UN for a special screening. The screening will be hosted by the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime and Indian anti-trafficking organization, Apne Aap Women Worldwide.

“Art is a powerful advocacy tool to raise awareness and we hope this beautifully acted thoughtful film will move people to take action against the scourge of sex trafficking,” said Simone Monasebian, Director of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime.

According to the UNODC, human trafficking is the third largest crime in the world, involving billions of dollars and victimizing thousands of people, especially women and children.

Survivors of prostitution from Apne Aap supported and consulted the filmmakers by sharing their life stories with the director and the actors, showing them the red light areas of Kolkata and were on the set during filming.

“It’s an honor for us to screen our film Love Sonia for the United Nations. I feel privileged and am looking forward to the screening on the 11th October in New York!” shared director, Tabrez Noorani. Read more

Forever Against Animal Testing

Natura &Co, the global purpose-driven beauty group, and its ethical beauty brand The Body Shop, are this week advocating for change at the United Nations (UN) High Level Political Forum (HLPF), taking place in New York.

Natura &Co, Natura and The Body Shop are hosting and participating in events throughout the week with key UN missions and stakeholders to reinforce their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their drive to build a fairer and more sustainable world.

In line with the HLPF theme of “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies,” The Body Shop will be enforcing its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Goal 12: responsible consumption and production. The goal is relevant to The Body Shop and Cruelty Free International’s current Forever Against Animal Testing Campaign, which aims to end animal testing in cosmetics globally. Seven million people around the world have signed the petition which will be presented to the UN later this year.

Natura is also fully committed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted in 2015. Through initiatives relating to issues such as carbon, waste, women’s empowerment, education, water, biodiversity and the Amazon Rainforest, Natura contributes directly or indirectly to 16 of the 17 SDGs.

MEININGER to open a hotel in Glasgow, United Kingdom

Cox & Kings owned MEININGER Hotels and investor LGIM Real Assets (Legal & General) have signed an agreement for a hotel in Glasgow. The hotel will be located on West George Street opposite Queen Street Train Station and will offer 160 rooms and 590 beds. The opening is scheduled for 2020.

 

Due to its strategic location in the centre of Glasgow, opposite to Queen Street Train Station which is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, many of the city’s sights, museums and monuments are within walking distance from the hotel. Tata Trusts supports South United Sports Foundation for the Development of Sport at the Grassroots level

South United Sports Foundation has received support from Tata Trusts towards the development of sport at the grassroots level.

Through the support, the program will cover coaching, equipment, and refreshments for 252 students under the South United Sports Foundation community projects, particularly The Dharavi Community Programme, the BPM High School Project, Mumbai and The Foundation Development Team.

South United Sports Foundation is designed to reach out to children from under privileged backgrounds by engaging them in sports. Through this, South United Sports Foundation strives to not only create talented football players but also provide employment opportunities for youngsters in the sports industry. The foundation has trained over a 1000 students since its inception.
