The valedictory ceremony for the 49th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa got off to a glittering start at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, in Taleigaon, Goa today November 28, 2018. Union Tourism Minister Shri K. J. Alphons graced the closing ceremony, along with a host of dignitaries from the political and cinematic landscape. Governor of Goa, Smt. Mridula Sinha; Governor of Punjab, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore; Union Minister of State for AYUSH (I/C), Shri Shripad Naik; Minister for Town and Country Planning, Goa, Shri Vijay Sardesai; Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Amit Khare were also present. Indian cine celebrities Anil Kapoor, Rakul Preet, Chitrangada Singh, Diana Penty and Keerthi Suresh walked the red carpet, adding to the colour and glamour of the star-studded evening.

Singapore Tourism Board launches second wave of Passion Made Possible brand campaign in India with #PartyLikeInSG

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) launched the second wave of its Passion Made Possible brand campaign in India with an evening of fun and entertainment for the travel trade, media and influencers – focusing on the Socialiser tribe offerings available in Singapore. Held at Verbena Brewpub & Skygarden in Kamala Mills, the event featured performances by Singapore’s noted artistes – Wayne Liu aka DJ KoFlow, the turntablist icon and Yung Raja, popular rapper signed to M03 Records, a division of Kartel Records, who mixes his lyrics in both English and Tamil. The event also showcased the original Singapore Sling mixed by bartender Andy Lim from the Raffles Hotel while culinary expert Ruqxana Vasanwala, founder of Cookery Magic which conducts cooking classes, provided her unique twist on local Singaporean delicacies such as Pisang Goreng (Fried Bananas) and Onde-Onde (Pandan-flavoured Glutinous Rice Balls with Palm Sugar) tapas-style.

Bollywood Theme Park to Boost Tourism in Maharashtra – Principal Secretary, Tourism, Govt of Maharashtra

Speaking at the World Tourism day, the Principal Secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Maharashtra, Mr Vijay Gautam in his key note address, informed of a Bollywood theme park being set up by Mahindra & Mahindra Group, which will give the much needed boost to the Mumbai tourism in particular and the state in general. He said since the declaration of the states’ Tourism policy in 2016, the state has attracted 6600/- crore worth of investments into tourism infrastructure and facilities. He said the state is endeavoring to add international flavor to the various tourism initiatives and the next big activity is being undertaken to promote and enhance facilities at the Elephanta. In a major step to put the state on global tourist map, he informed the world largest circus Cirque Du Soleil would be touring Mumbai in November – the first of its kind to ever visit India.

He said tourism has a great potential in generating employment with a multiplier effect. He said the digital transformation taking place is making it easy in “Do It Yourself” concept where the tourism has moved from destination to exponential tourism.

Earlier welcoming the Chief Guest, the Director General of IMC, Mr Ajit Mangrulkar, said the digital initiatives in the tourism and hospitality sector is making a paradigm shift in broad basing the activities and services of the sector. He said the increased usage of smart phones, internet and the launch of travel and hotel booking portals by specialized service providers is adding to the employment and to the country’s GDP. He said innovative products such as medical tourism, rural and culinary tourism will open new vistas of economic growth and development. Read more

Switzerland Tourism (ST) has launched pop-up hotels in 11 Swiss cities that gives guests the chance to spend the night in unusual places that have never been slept in before. The pop-up hotels are part of the ST cities campaign, allowing tourists to experience the booming Swiss cities from a surprising perspective.

The fishermen’s cabins in Basel are normally only accessible to a small number of people. But, this summer, Switzerland Tourism (ST) is making it possible for interested guests to spend a night in a beautiful hut directly on the Rhine because one of the huts is being turned into a pop-up hotel room for a few months. The pop-up hotel in Bellinzona is equally unusual. It’s hidden in Castelgrande Castle. Guests can be the king or queen of the castle in the tower room of this UNESCO World Heritage Site – at least for one night. Read more

For making it seamless and simpler for Indian leisure travellers to visit New Zealand, the New Zealand Tourism (NZT) and Immigration New Zealand (INZ) have inducted Cox & Kings Ltd in its Tourism Industry Partnership Programme (TIP). The TIP Programme will provide a more streamlined process for procuring a New Zealand visitor visa to the Indian visitors travelling with Cox & Kings. The faster processing of visa will now take just three days as compared to fifteen days as in the past. The new arrangement formally came into effect with the signing of an MOU at the St Regis Hotel, Mumbai. Read more

BIHAR: INDIA’S EMERGING TOURISM HOTSPOT; Bihar Tourism to set up Ramayan, Sufi Tourism Circuits

In a bid to enhance its share of domestic tourist traffic in the country, the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) plans to set up Ramayan and Sufi Tourism circuits in the state. As per the corporation’s plans, the Ramayan Circuit will include places mentioned in the epic of Ramayana. While places such as Tar in Bhojpur, Ahirauli in Buxar, Pretshila Hills in Gaya, Ramchura, Panth Pakar and Valmiki Nagar will comprise the Ramayan Circuit, the Sufi Circuit will include Biharsharif, Manersharif, Munger and Phulwarisharif.
