PhonePe is now live across over 1 lakh offline retail stores in Hyderabad

India’s fastest growing payments platform today announced that it has grown its offline merchant base to over 1.4 lakh Andhra Pradesh & Telangana States. This reflects PhonePe’s phenomenal acceptance across large organised retail stores as well as small and mid-size retail stores in the city. Being one of the pioneers in the UPI space, PhonePe enables merchants to accept payments from consumers through multiple instruments like UPI, Credit Cards, Debit Cards and Wallets. PhonePe also offers multiple solutions which makes it easy for merchants to start accepting digital payments. These include integrated payment solutions, QR codes and POS devices.

Speaking on reaching this milestone, Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat, Head – Offline Organized Business, PhonePe, said, “Our offline business has shown phenomenal traction in the last one year. We are now live at most organised retail outlets across grocery, fuel, medicines and account for 6 -10% of all non-cash transactions. Customers can now transact seamlessly using PhonePe at small Kirana stores as well as large retail outlets. The entire payments process is extremely fast and seamless ensuring consumers have a convenient experience and shop owners/cashiers do not require extensive training making their operations easier. M-commerce continues to rise – Strong uplift in retail sales during the festive season

Criteo (NASDAQ: CRTO), the advertising platform for the open Internet, today released seasonal data in anticipation of Diwali, to help e-commerce companies and online retailers better understand the buying behaviour of their customers during the festive season. The seasonal data, based on consumers’ online browsing and buying behaviour during the peak season last year (17th September – 18th October 2017) which was the pre-Diwali period, revealed that the highest sales peak and website traffic was witnessed a month before Diwali. Retail sales from mobile web in the weeks leading to Diwali last year saw an increase of 128%.

 

As the major ecommerce players in India ride on the growing popularity of online shopping, festive season has become a period of significant importance. Almost every ecommerce player in the ecosystem launches mega-sales during the festive season as consumers look to explore thousands of brands online and spend their disposable income. There is a brand war with high budget spending on advertisements as well as sales offers on consumer products and services.

 

According to Criteo’s findings, which are based on an analysis of 90 million retail shopping transactions made in India last year, hike in sales reached up to 128%, while the increase in visitors was seen rising to a maximum level of 65%, compared to the average weekly sales during March 12-18, 2017. Bhatia Communications and Retail Limited, a leading mobile and accessories retail in Gujarat has announced a growth of 250 percent in Earnings Before Interest, Tax, and Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) for the year 2017-18. It stood at Rs 7 crore as against Rs 2 crore in the previous financial year 2016-17.

For the financial 2017-18, the Profit After Tax (PAT) was of Rs 3.5 crore as compared to Rs 0.5 crore in the past financial year, thereby registering a 600 percent year-on-year (YOY) growth after including tax and other regulatory gains.

Meanwhile, the total income of the company was Rs 167 crore as compared to Rs 133 crore in the past year, thereby registering a growth of 26 percent on YoY basis.
