PVR Cinemas & MAMI launch the Delhi Edition of MAMI's Year Round Program

PVR Cinemas, with its storied history of becoming the leading exhibitor and an eminent platform for all things cinematic launched the Year Round Programme by Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) in Delhi.

An epic city-wide celebration of global filmmaking culture and star-studded special screening at PVR ECX, Chanakya marked the official curtain call of the programme’s Delhi Edition. The two-day launch event premiered two of the most sought-after films of the year – Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and Ari Aster’s Hereditary on the 9th & 10th of June 2018 ahead of their India release.  Read more

Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds to mark the beginning of the collaboration between MAMI (Year Round Programme) and Carnival Cinemas

Carnival Cinemas – is partnering MAMI  in their Year Round Programme (YRP).Renowned Iranian maestro Majid Majidi’s Bollywood debut BEYOND THE CLOUDS and Babis Makridis acclaimed Greek drama PITY that was screened at the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival to mark the beginning of the collaboration.


The partnership will kick off with a special screening of BEYOND THE CLOUDS followed by PITY in the next ten days at the newly refurbished Matterden Carnival Cinemas (previously known as Deepak Talkies). In the coming months, screenings will also be held at Liberty Carnival Cinemas


The screening of Beyond the Clouds will be followed by a Q & A session with Director Majid Majidi and actors, Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan moderated by Anupama Chopra.

Launched in 2016, the MAMI Year Round Programme is a unique initiative started by MAMI with the belief that it was not enough to have a week-long film festival in a film crazy city like Mumbai. Through the programme, passionate movie lovers can sign up and get free access to the best and latest Indian and international films throughout the year. The Year Round Programme has now screened over 40 films which include sought-after titles like Lady Bird, The Square, Zama, The Shape of Water, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missourie, A Wrinkle In Time and Village Rockstars and hosted workshops as well. Rima Das’s Village Rockstars wins the Golden Gateway award in the India Gold Category and Carla Simon’s Summer 1993 wins the Golden Gateway award in the International competition category. The 15th edition of the Mumbai film festival presented by Reliance Entertainment and organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will be held from 17-24 October 2013 at Liberty Cinema, Metro Big Cinema, Marine Lines as the main festival venues and Cinemax, Versova as the satellite venue. The 15th Mumbai film festival’s impressive line up of 200 movies and other highlights were revealed today at the curtain raiser press conference held at the Taj Mahal hotel in the presence of Mr. Shyam Benegal, Filmmaker and Chairman, MAMI, Mr. Amit Khanna, and Mr. Ramesh Sippy, Trustees, MAMI, Mr. Srinivasan Narayanan, Director, Mumbai Film Festival along with various dignitaries from the Indian Entertainment industry.

Before the word Bollywood became famous, the Hindi film industry was termed as Filmistan which was a film studio and a famous production house founded by Shashadhar Mukherjee who came from Bombay Talkies. Filmistan produced a number of hit movies in 1940s and 1950s, but on 19 October, at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival, I came across a film straight from the heart ‘Filmistan’ by Nitin Kakkar, one of the bright new faces in Indian cinema who has done an excellent work with a young energetic team to create a magic on wide screen.
