Sandy & Joel, of Somey’s Kitchen are the only Indian entrepreneurs,being featured on the popular startup show on ITV, a UK Television Channel. Founders of Somey’s Kitchen, a brand that brings traditional home-made pickled masalas and Indian Breads to the global market, will be a part of ITV’s Give It A Year.

Give It A Year is a new business-themed series, where Baroness Karren Brady meets people who have started a new business and follow their growth for the first year across the UK.

Indian paddlers annex a silver and a bronze at Nigeria Open

Indian paddler Ronit Bhanja turned in a gritty performance to annex a silver in the Under-21 Men’s Singles while Abhishek Yadav and Sarthak Gandhi bagged a bronze in the Men’s Doubles at the 2018 ITTF Challenge, Seamaster Nigeria Open.

Ronit had it easy in the first round, downing Tobi Falana 3-0. He had to toil hard in the quarterfinals, though, with Italy’s Antonio Amato putting up a good fight. He lost the first set 10-12 but bounced back to clinch the second 11-3. Ronit lost the third set too but then switched gears to bag the last two for a well-deserved 3-2 victory and a place in the last four stage.  Read more

After bagging many awards in its name, Gali Guleiyan will now be traveling to Indian Film Festival of Melbourne along with the other critically acclaimed films.

Appreciated by critics all over, Gali Guleiyan (In the Shadows) is a psychological drama about an isolated paranoid man, who is slowly losing his grip on reality. The film will be releasing in India as Gali Guleiyan.
Having been to many renowned International Film Festivals now, the film has garnered appreciation from one and all. In 2017, Gali Guleiyan premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival & Mumbai’s MAMI, and also went on to win the Grand Jury award.
It was also screened at the prestigious 42nd Cleveland International Film Festival, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angles and the Atlanta Film Festival amongst others.
Manoj Bajpayee who has been nominated as the best actor for Gali Guleiyan said, “In the Shadows (Gali Guleiyan) in the nominations at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and it gives me great pleasure to say that. At the 5th Indian Screenwriters Conference , held in Mumbai from August 1 to August 3, veteran screenwriter Anjum Rajabali, joined by Aamir Khan, Amit Masurkar (Newton’s director) and Delhi Belly’s Verma on stage, and scores of writers in the audience, prevailed upon Siddharth Roy Kapur, president of the Film and Television Producers’ Guild of India, to work with the Screenwriters Association on basic guidelines to safeguard legal and intellectual property rights of writers.

Kapur agreed to get the powerful grid to favourably consider the demands, which is being seen as a major stride forward. A small clause in a contract document will mean a big leap in the quality of films Hindi cinema produces, even though it will be a few years before the real impact of this will trickle down.

While web-series have opened up space for more independent content, but in terms of mass impact, they are still not a patch on the 70-mm or prime time general entertainment channels (GEC).  Read more

Indian Performing Right Society Opts For Digital Payments For Licenses.

In a pro-Digital India move, the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) has gone cashless, by encouraging digital payments, for smooth, convenient and effective transactions. Under the new management, who has set a goal of making the IPRS a world class organisation, the introduction of digital payments is a step in that direction. With this cashless system of applying for a license, users can now simply log on to the IPRS website, fill in the application, and make the required payment online. Post this, the applicant will receive their license immediately via e-mail and SMS.
Commenting on this new development, Javed Akhtar, Chairman of the IPRS said- IPRS wants to ensure that purchasing of licenses by organiser for any event, big or small and anywhere in the country, can be done at the click of a mouse. This step will bring total transparency and ease of doing business with the Society to the benefit of everybody concerned; on the other hand, events organiser should have no excuse anymore for not obtaining the license required under the law.” As the only government authorised body in the country to administer rights, issue licenses and collect royalties for authors, composers and publishers in respect of musical and literary works (lyrics), cashless payments will bring about ease of doing business. The 3rd and final day of the 5th Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC) concluded on a beautiful note as 3 living legends Gulzar, writers Javed Siddiqui (Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Zubiedaa) and Kamlesh Pandey (Tezaab, Rang De Basanti) paid heartfelt tributes to 3 late legends - lyricist Shailendra (Guide, Mera Naam Joker), writer Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza (Mahabharat) and writer-filmmaker K. A.  Abbas (Saat Hindustani, Mera Naam Joker).

The Screenwriters Association (SWA) posthumously awarded the late Shailendra, Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza and K.A Abbas for their stellar contribution to Indian cinema and television. These legends were conferred with awards for Lyrics writing, Writing for TV and Writing for Films respectively. Read more

The 5th edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC) was inaugurated today by Chief Guest Aamir Khan. The eagerly awaited biennial which is organised by the Screenwriters Association (SWA) is being held from August 1-3 at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Where Mind Is Without Fear’ that focuses on the challenges facing Indian screenwriters today.

Present at the opening ceremony were Mr. Sanjay Chouhan – SWA Executive Committee member and Convenor of the 5th ISC. Also present were Mr. Sunil Salgia – SWA Executive Committee member and Co-convenor of the 5th ISC, Mr. Zama Habib – General Secretary of the SWA and Preeti Mamgain – President of the SWA.

The conference started with a 2-minutes silence that was observed in memory of deceased SWA members.

Following this, Mr. Sanjay Chouhan, spoke about the journey of Screenwriters Conference and how it has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. He said, “The inaugural edition of ISC which was held in 2006 at FTII Pune was attended by 275 delegates, whereas the first day of this year’s edition is attended by over 800 aspiring screenwriters” Read more
