The Chairman Mr. Nitin Khandelwal, Vice Chairman Mr. Pramod Agrawal and the new Committee of Administration officially took charge of the administration of All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) at a glittering ceremony coinciding with the 8th edition of Jewel Trendz Gems & Jewellery show at Hotel Sahara Star. Mr. G. V. Sreedhar, immediate Past Chairman, GJF, passed on the coveted mantle to Mr. Khandelwal and the new Committee of Administration at a glittering ceremony in the presence of Mr. Ajay Sancheti, Hon. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and several luminaries of the gem & jewellery sector.

All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation Chairman Sreedhar GV handed over a memorandum/ petition to Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley in the presence of GJF EDs Shri Ashok Minawala and Shri Nitin Khandelwal whereafter Finance Minister promised to look into their grievances wrt excise duty imposition post Budget 2016-17. Meanwhile jewellers across the country went on dharna and did a shutter down and apex Associations decided to extend the strike till 7th March 2016. GJF hails Union Budget and gold related initiatives but seeks more support for Make in India related gems & jewellery initiatives

The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF), the national trade federation for the promotion and growth of trade in Gems and Jewellery (G&J) Industry across India, has hailed the Union Budget FY2016 presented by Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley as progressive growth oriented long term economic blueprint. GJF praised the ‘change in attitude’ of the new Government which has progressively stimulated several positive changes in policy such as abolition of 80:20 Rule; inclusion of the gems & jewellery sector in Make in India programme; and opening of gold loans to the trade. GJF is hopeful that customs duty reduction on gold imports will happen soon as the Government is well aware that higher duties will lead to smuggling which the trade wants to get rid of.

GJF alleges that importers are hoarding gold and not distributing to jewellers

GJF also proposes unlocking of idle gold in households & trusts to resolve CAD

GJF seeks nodal Ministry for representing the domestic gems & jewellery sector

All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF), the national nodal and the largest single trade body in India for the promotion and growth of trade in gems and jewellery across India, has urged the Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley, the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India to avoid imposing curbs on gold imports as it could spell doom for the gems and jewellery sector. Considering that the gems & jewellery sector has been going through tough times, GJF also sought the formation of a nodal Ministry to represent its sad plight and sorry state. GJF has proposed a national debate on this matter because gold is part and parcel of the common man’s life since thousands of years.

Board of Directors of GJF at the 9th AGM

The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) urged the Government to grant it National Gems & Jewellery Council status at its 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on September 7, 2014. Union Ministry of Commerce had forwarded the file related to Council formation to Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) with recommendation for their considerations. The Board of Directors of GJF have approved relevant changes in the Articles of Association as per the new Companies Act so as to function as a deemed Council.
