A group often female entrepreneurs from India have arrived in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city,to participate in the Canada India Acceleration Program (CIAP) for the next two weeks. The CIAPis part of the International Start-up Exchange Program between All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),the apex body that regulates and facilitates technical education for over 10,000 institutes in India,and Carleton University,a leading comprehensive university in Canada with over 30,000 students and faculty members.

The CIAPwill support 100 women-led tech start-ups from both countries over a period of five years. It involves a two-week intensive boot camp & acceleration program comprising of start-up ecosystem exposure, industry visits, and meetings with Canadian ecosystem enablers like investors, government officials, and business mentors. The first cohort of entrepreneurs are from wide range of fields including Agri-tech, life science, medical technologies, and energy. The opportunities provided by the CIAP will enable them to explore emerging market opportunities in Canada while accessing business acceleration facilities at Carleton University. Read more

Express Wi-Fi seeks to help operators provide internet to those who don’t have reliable or affordable access, while at the same time enabling local entrepreneurs to build a business of their own. Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association’s Institute of Management inaugurated their Incubation Centre under the Centre of Entrepreneurship & Innovation (COEI). Prof. Suhas Pednekar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University, inaugurated the Centre along with unveiling the first in-house journal, “Prism Square.” The Incubation Centre plays a dual role by providing facilities to incubate promising business ideas and help them translate first into a business and then help them launch. Founders of Somey’s Kitchen, a brand that brings traditional home-made pickled masalas and Indian Breads to the global market, will be a part of ITV’s Give It A Year.

Mamta’s life has changed entirely after becoming an entrepreneur. This just 12th stdgraduate has emerged as an independent and confident business woman, who actively participates in taking financial decisions for her family as well as is role model for women of her community. Till one year back, Mamta, like other women of her community,was struggling to make ends meet. She used to do a little bit of tailoring work and earn around Rs. 2000 per month to support her family, which wasn’t enough. After becoming part of ‘Poverty to Prosperity’ project, she not only earns an additional income of Rs. 5000 every month through her Poultry farming business, she is also on the Board of Directors leading the Producer Company formed under the project to support the businesses of beneficiaries. Eventually, Mamta wishes to establish her own hatchery unit to breed and supply chickens of kadaknath breed to other women through the Producer Company so that they can also start and benefit from this business.
