Jindal Stainless supports rehabilitation efforts at Kerala, 25,000 stainless steel plates and glasses, and 500 solar lamps being donated to the flood affected state

Aiding the relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit state of Kerala, Jindal Stainless donated relief material, including 25,000 stainless steel plates and glasses. In collaboration with Luci solar, USA, 500 solar light have also been sent, which are collapsible and easy to carry. These lights, which can charge during the day and be used as night lights, will be distributed in the worst affected areas. Jindal Stainless presented a token of 5 boxes to Kerala government officials at Kerala House. The relief material, benefitting nearly 5000 families, will be distributed in Alleppey by the on-ground implementation partner, World Vision, in collaboration with the District Collector, Alleppey, Mr S Suhas. Chairperson, JSL Foundation, Smt Deepika Jindal said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and property in Kerala. Rehabilitation of affected families is a long process. This is a small measure to help augment household utilities for people in need”. Read more

Mumbai NGO to attempt Guinness World Record for World’s Biggest Modak weighing 650 Kgs in support of Kerala Flood Rescue Efforts

A Mumbai-based NGO Utkarsh Education Trust will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the World’s Biggest Modak.

The NGO which is supported by the Nevada Putman Foundation, through this attempt wants to highlight the plight of the poor in Kerala and create awareness and motivate Mumbaikars to donate and support the cause of Kerala Flood Rescue and Relief work.

The brainchild of Dr Pranav Kabra, the event is supported by several prominent citizens from the area including social activist Nevada Putman.

The attempt will take place on 13th September at Evershine Nagar at Malad in suburban Mumbai. A bevy of Bollywood celebs and Tv stars are expected to be in attendance at the event. Read more

WHO lauds Global Partnership to Stop Leprosy; will help renew efforts for zero leprosy

Welcoming the launch of the ‘Global Partnership to Stop Leprosy’, the World Health Organization today said a stronger force with a common vision was much needed to accelerate efforts to end leprosy.

“A collaborative approach by leading partners to address remaining challenges with innovative solutions, is expected to provide renewed energy and impetus to accelerate efforts against leprosy. This is a turning point, we must harness this energy to free the world of leprosy forever,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director for WHO South-East Asia, who also steers WHO’s Global Leprosy Programme.
