It takes great deal of empathy to understand the pain of another species especially the ones that cannot talk the language of man. It is even more rare to find people who are not just beautiful in the way they look, but in the way they are too.

India’s most loved heroine, Madhuri Dixit is one such personality who is fond of dogs. The actress recently lost her pet dog Riya to cancer. Riya was adopted by Madhuri when she was 5 years old and she lived with them for seven years prior to her death to cancer. When they first brought her home, her health was deteriorating with her hair falling out. Madhuri’s family nursed her back to health and she grew into a beautiful addition of the family. The Macao Government Tourism Office presents the “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Dog” on the 3rd day (18 February) and 9th day (24 February) of Lunar New Year to celebrate the joyful occasion the visitors. The event features a range of spectacular activities such as the float parade, large-scale performances, fireworks display, float exhibition and mobile phone game. MGTO makes continuous efforts to augment the scale and impact of local events and festivals, not only to attract visitors from a diversity of source markets but also to encourage enthusiastic participation among residents.

Chinese New Year is the most important and colourful Chinese festival celebrated by the majority of the local population, where shops, offices, factories close for this traditional holiday during the month of February from 16th to 18th 2018. 2018 is the Year of the Dog. Wong Choi, meaning prosperity in Chinese, was a common name given to pet dogs by their masters. The Parade will revolve around a story in which a kennel of dogs known as Wong Choi has gathered blessings in the past twelve years and all kinds of delicious cuisines, to lay before local residents and visitors like a splendid banquet, delivering blessings and wishes for a fruitful, vigorous and prosperous year. Souvenirs will be distributed along the routes on both days to add the joyful and festive vibes.

During ten days there are a huge number of events celebrating the New Year. The long dragon and lions dance on the streets, crowds visit the temples, lanterns, flowers and entertainment comes alive in the most important squares of the city. It is also a tradition, when people visit and greet each other with two joined hands closed, saying “Kung Hei Fat Choi” and offering “Lai Si” (red pockets) containing money, which is a way to wish good luck and prosperity throughout the year to friends and relatives.
