Girish Malik’s ‘JAL’ surprises audiences and critics

Girish Malik directorial debut “JAL” which has been receiving rave reviews at international film festivals continued its great run even in India as critics and audiences gave thumbs up to the movie. The way the subject was dealt with, not only surprised the critics but also the audiences.

Speaking about the movie Bollywood Heartthrob Ayushman Khurana said “I am a nature lover and always used to wonder when Indian cinema will make a film on complex and beautiful relationship between man and nature. Jal does that and so much more. Thanks Girish Malik for giving us Jal.”

“JAL makes a rock-solid impact. It’s poignant and powerful and I suggest you take time out to watch this truly gripping fare.” added Taran Adarsh.

Another reputed critic Subash K Jha probably gave one of the most telling comments “Never before, probably never again…Jal is a work of remarkable resonance. Once-in-a-Lifetime experience. Girish Malik’s directorial debut takes your breath away.” What stood out for critics was the way the subject was dealt with, director Girish Malik managed to find the perfect balance with his screenplay and storytelling. Critics have gone gaga over the movie Komal Nahata further went on to praise the movie saying, “Jal quenches your thirst for meaningful and good cinema. It boasts of wonderful performances and superb taking and making. You need to watch this film to understand where the world is headed” while The Times of India said, “It’s a picture-perfect album with stark sights and parched souls. Debutant director Girish Malik throws in some light-hearted moments, which nicely water down the intensity of those long, sun-stroked scenes. ” and Jituraj of Radio Mirchi summed it up best when he said “Super cinematography and great story makes Jal an awesome work”

Apart from the brilliant direction and screenplay, what has worked for the movie is the amazing cinematography by Sunita Radia. Sunita has captured the Rann of Kutch beautifully and the movie is a visual treat. The music of the film is like another character in the film, Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh who have debuted as music directors from the film have done a fabulous job with the background score.
