Mr. Annanya Agarwal, Founder & CEO, Runaya Refining recently hosted a networking dinner for the India-based parents and alumni of the United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA), in Mumbai. Mr. Dave Shepherd, Director of College Advancement, UWCSEA presided over the meet, that was attended by some of the distinguished alumni.
Mr. Agarwal graduated from UWCSEA seven year ago and has now successfully founded Runaya Refining with the aim to enhance sustainable manufacturing practices in the metals sector. He is of the view that the world is moving much faster than our education programs and we still use archaic systems to teach extinct topics. Speaking on the occasion, he said “UWCSEA has always managed to be ahead of most other institutions in learning, growing, and evolving with the changing global situation. The UWCSEA vision looks to impart critical thinking, reasoning, ethics, morality, athleticism and artistry to it’s students where many other institutions focus primarily on imparting knowledge.”
“Education need not be restricted to just academics, it is not only important to do well in class, but to do well on the field or in the art room or the theatre as well. Educational programs with such diversities will create a society of empowered individuals who will work towards the welfare of the entire community” he added
Mr. Dave Shepherd, enlightened the audience present by saying “I am delighted to be a part of this gathering today, we constantly strive to educate children to the highest level possible and it brings me immense pride to see the alumni of UWC reach entrepreneurial heights. One of our most important and key goals over the next few years is to increase the number of scholarships be it global, immigrant, etc, as we at UWC believe it is the only way to ensure socio economic diversity”
Some of the other notable alumni present at the event were Mr. Karan Wadhwa, Financial Analyst, India Value Fund (and son of Mr. Ashok Wadhwa, Group CEO, AMBIT Holdings) and Ms. Antara Ashra, Founder, Future School of Performing Arts.
