ABOUT SIHALI JAGEER:
Aisha Ashraf and Ursala Jung, sisters belonging to the Sihali Jageer family, are both bankers by profession. They gave in to the temptation of bringing the rich heritage of this unique region to the world and finally decided to follow their heart. Their heartfelt desire preserves this rich heritage by introducing to the world the traditions and fineries they have grown up with, drawn from the place called home. Thereby Sihali Jageer, the company, was born.
Aisha, the main designer, stays in Singapore. She draws her inspiration both from her traditions, as well as from the tropics she currently lives in. And adds a touch of Japanese aesthetics, drawn from her many years of living in Tokyo.
The third partner is Renu Rana, the counter balance. Renu hails from the ruling Rajput family of Jawalagarh. A graduate of the Lady Irwin college in New Delhi and an army wife, she brings a unique balance to design using the art, textiles and cultures of the Rajputs
Their designs are a blend. Just like the fabric of our country, they blend heritage and legacy into contemporary and modern designs. They focus on ethnic fabrics, weaves, embroidery, Indian attires of lesser known and undervalued rural traditions inspire them. They combine these traditional garments with contemporary needs and more daring clothing styles to achieve a synthesis of style, comfort and heritage
Drawing from the past, they create a new look to Modern India. Handmade using the finest of natural fabrics from all corners of India, their ensembles are cut in lines inspired by the aesthetics of the Pathans and Rajputs So they create dresses from the traditional Maheshwari cottons, match Coimbatore cotton silks with Chinese collars. The Tangail fabrics from Bengal become beautiful cape tops matched with ikkat pants. They love the magic temple borders of the South and use the jewel like fabrics in our Western styles. And they match these to the easy flow styles of modern ready to wear, both in our Indian and Western styles.
They have had tremendous success with our exhibitions in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Their clientele today includes repeat buyers, those who have seen us in our exhibitions, and contacted us for a customised style based on what they have seen
