The Malad Masti initiative brought together the young and old alike in a fiesta of freedom from vehicles for three hours on 4 Sunday’s of December.

The event which started at 7am received an overwhelming response from toddlers to senior citizens. The street was chocked-full by various dancing and fitness groups who educated citizens for a healthy life. But for a group of 12 young skaters, Sunday morning was like a dream come true. They finally had smooth and open space to test their skills without fear of speeding vehicles.

Other events like yoga, live singing performance, drawing, nail art, badminton and volleyball were also organised.

Citizens appreciated organisers for providing basic facilities like water, first aid, and portable toilets.

Aslam Sheikh MLA, who envisioned the “Malad Masti“ concept, says, “In this internet age our citizens are well educated, well-informed, and their expectations are accordingly high. Malad Masti met their inherent desire to engage in fitness and cultural activities, in an enjoyable, safe, outdoor setting. Other free street events focus on sports and fitness alone, Malad Masti gives opportunity to people to engage in performing arts and entertainment also.”

With word spreading about the event far and wide across social media and news media, we won’t be surprised if the event is renamed in the future as Mumbai Masti.
