The second edition of The Charity Cup is back and as promised, it was bigger and surpassed the previous year’s record. The inaugural edition offered players a fun filled day with thrilling football matches of different age groups and helped the organizers donate in excess of One Lakh Rupees to the NGO, “Insaniyat”.
Organised by 12th Std students Ishaan Boxwala, Bhavya Jain, Karamjyot Chawla, Aryan Chugh and Amay Choudhary, who decided to raise money for people who need it the most every year. Football, being their favorite they decided to organize a football tournament. The participants were the school students across Mumbai. The fund that was raised by the tournament was donated to Paralympic champion Ms. Ruhi Singhade and to NGO Insaniyat.
The efforts on Ishaan and his friend’s part has left everyone impressed, Actors Arjun Rampal, Siddharth Malhotra ,Bobby Deol, Varun Dhawan, Suniel Shetty and Athiya Shetty , who had all sent their best wishes to the young student organisers .
Also received best wishes from Varun Dhawan, who was last seen in the blockbuster Judwaa 2 had only good things to say. “Just want to wish best of Luck, to all the organizers of ‘The Charity Cup’ Great job, great initiative and all the best”, he added.
“This is the second edition of the Charity Cup and this time its bigger as they have a badminton champion from the Paralympic Olympic and its going to be incredible! Let’s try to put smile on their faces”, the Daddy actor, Arjun Rampal said.
Ruhi Singhade, one of the Paralympic Champion who has won various prizes, noticeably, Gold medal for power lifting in Michigan USA, Bronze medal in Badminton, London championship, Bronze medal in Discus Throw, Canada championship and Bronze medal in Mixed Doubles, Korea. “For my previous tournaments, my father had to take loans to make sure that I’m able to go, however, with the Charity Cup money, I’ll be able to go for the next tournament on my own”, she added, “There is an NGO support for most of the women causes which is great, but there is nothing for Paralympic women athletes. This tournament is the first of its kind and I’m proud to be associated with.”
The organizing students excitedly quoted “We were very excited about this tournament and after the first edition, which got us a really good response, Support from the players and the sponsors grew and it made it easy for us to get the second edition done, so here we are! We’re sold out for our Sunday morning event which is truly exhilarating!” Aryan Chugh added, “Next year, we are trying to do the same event but on a larger scale so that we’re able to help more people”.
The Charity Cup, a football tournament with a cause, consists of 32 teams playing matches of 30 minutes each and will be carried out in a knockout format. The second edition, which was held on 17th December 2017 at The St Andrews Turf Park, Bandra West was a tremendous success. Winners from the three age groups were given a trophy, cash prize and tokens of participation.
Sponsors from the first edition including Tibbs Frankie and Rupease have reiterated their confidence and pledged to be a part of this edition again. Alp Motors, Grandmamas Café, Emmay Entertainment, Bombay Dyeing, Friday Cine Entertainment and Golds Gym have also pledged for the same.
