An enthralling display of the vibrant culture and heritage of Karnataka marked the Rajyotsava celebrations at the Art of Living International Center on Saturday.
The event was inaugurated by Mysore Scion Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar along with other dignitaries like Jnanpeetha awardee Dr. Chandrashekar Kambar, Kannada scholar Dr M Chidananda Murthy. Also present were Hon. Union Minister Mr Ananthkumar Hegde and Hon. Minister of Food and Civil supplies of Karnataka U T Khader.
The gathering led by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of The Art of Living, took a pledge for preservation of the culture of the state.
Gurudev urged the gathering to teach their children to speak in mother tongue. “It’s not just about speaking the language, but imbibing theessence the words carry. In the Kannada, the words are written exactly the way it is spoken. This increases the memory power of children,”he said.
“Learning the mother tongue doesn’t mean being averse to other languages. Learn as many language as you can, but don’t forget yourmother tongue is the message I want you all to take home from this programme,” he added.
“For a state to prosper, we need to preserve its land, water, language, culture and literature,” he said. He urged the gathering to join theinitiative of river and water rejuvenation the Art of Living has launched in Karnataka.
On the occasion, the Art of Living honored luminaries who have made significant contributions in the fields of art, music, dance, sports, social service, spirituality, bureaucracy, culture, cinema, literature and journalism in the state.
Along with Kannada music and enriching cultural performances and intellectual discourses, the rich cultural variety of food preparations from every corner of the state was also celebrated at the event.

The organization has been working particularly with women and children in urban slums and rural areas.
