Richness of Karnataka in Full Display at The Art of Living

An enthralling display of the vibrant culture and heritage of Karnataka marked the Rajyotsava celebrations at the Art of Living International Center on Saturday.

The event was inaugurated by Mysore Scion Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar along with other dignitaries like Jnanpeetha awardee Dr. Chandrashekar Kambar, Kannada scholar Dr M Chidananda Murthy. Also present were Hon. Union Minister Mr Ananthkumar Hegde and Hon. Minister of Food and Civil supplies of Karnataka U T Khader.

The gathering led by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of The Art of Living, took a pledge for preservation of the culture of the state.

 

Gurudev urged the gathering to teach their children to speak in mother tongue. “It’s not just about speaking the language, but imbibing theessence the words carry. In the Kannada, the words are written exactly the way it is spoken. This increases the memory power of children,”he said.  

“Learning the mother tongue doesn’t mean being averse to other languages. Learn as many language as you can, but don’t forget yourmother tongue is the message I want you all to take home from this programme,” he added. 

“For a state to prosper, we need to preserve its land, water, language, culture and literature,” he said. He urged the gathering to join theinitiative of river and water rejuvenation the Art of Living has launched in Karnataka.

On the occasion, the Art of Living honored luminaries who have made significant contributions in the fields of art, music, dance, sports, social service, spirituality, bureaucracy, culture, cinema, literature and journalism in the state.

Along with Kannada music and enriching cultural performances and intellectual discourses, the rich cultural variety of food preparations from every corner of the state was also celebrated at the event.

The Art of Living – Creating an empowered Karnataka

Under the guidance of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a world-renowned spiritual leader and Humanitarian, The Art of Living began its work with a vision to create an empowered Karnataka through resurgence of human values in all aspects of life. The mission was to improve the lives of people in Karnataka with special focus on those less privileged in rural and slum areas through training, creating opportunities for self reliance, enabling dignity of labor and empowering them to lead future development activities. The organization aims to effect a social transformation that is as holistic in nature as possible, covering all human aspects from moral values, children education, youth and women vocational skills training for employability, women self-help group empowerment, community cohesion, living environment conservation, return to sustainable chemical-free farming, reformative training for prisoners and addicts.

Inspired by Sri Sri’s vision of creating a stress-free and a violence-free society, The Art of Living through its various service initiatives & stress-elimination programs in villages, slums, prisons, flood affected areas has touched the lives of lakhs of people. The organization has been working particularly with women and children in urban slums and rural areas.
