Today, while speaking at the Session on IGBC Green Buildings for Greener Navi Mumbai organised by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of CII, Shri Sudhakar Sonawane,Hon’ble Mayor, NMMC underlined that there’s a need to organize many more such Sessions to create awareness amongst Citizens of Navi Mumbai. He also emphasized on having more Builders and developers on board to adopt IGBC rating programme and benefit through incentives from Municipal Corporation. During his speech he also referred to ancient Indian architecture, the ethos and their relevance in Green Buildings.
Shri Dinesh Waghmare, Hon’ble Commissioner, NMMC highlighted the various sustainable initiatives currently being taken by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and he also assured that NMMC would partner with IGBC in propagating the concept and also committed to make Navi Mumbai a Green & Smart City.
Mr Gurmit Singh Arora, Co Chairman, IGBC Mumbai Chapter highlighted the catalytic role played by IGBC. He informed that, India, with over 3.5 Billion Sq. ft. is the second country in the world with largest registered green building footprint. IGBC aspires to facilitate 10 Billion Sq.ft of green building footprint by 2022 (75th year of Independent India), he added.
Mrs Netra Shirke, Chairperson, Standing Committee, NMMC called on the need of having Green Buildings in the City and appreciated the good work done by IGBC at National and State level. She further stated Green Buildings & Sustainability should be the way of life.
Ar Hiten Sethi, CEO, Hiten Sethi Associates stated “The Central and several State agencies have already given due recognition to IGBC’s Green Building initiatives by incentivizing IGBC Rated projects and urged Navi Municipal Corporation also to accord similar benefits to IGBC projects inNavi Mumbai.
